Social Media is an ever-changing landscape, with new tools and updates coming out almost daily.  With the popularity of Facebook and Twitter, other platforms are expanding their offerings to keep up.  In Part III of our series, we will look at TweetDeck and Hootsuite.

One of the great social media tool advances in recent months for business users has been the addition of platforms that allow for the management of Twitter accounts.  This is greatly needed when you are following hundreds of other Twitter users that can results in thousands of incoming updates.

TweetDeck (www.tweetdeck.com) is great for managing your own personal Twitter account.  It has various columns to manage your contacts and Twitter lists, with your stream and mentions on the right of your screen.  According to TechCrunch, TweetDeck has been downloaded more than 10 million times and has several million active users.  Their site claims that TweetDeck helps the user "stay in touch with what's happening now, connecting you with your contacts across Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and more."  In December 2009, TweetDeck updated its look and feel with the addition of Twitter lists, retweets, LinkedIn streams and geo-tagging features.  TweetDeck also has an iPhone app and according to their blog, "more will be coming in 2010."

Hootsuite (www.hootsuite.com) manages multiple accounts on its application, making it a business necessity if you are managing several branded accounts at once.  In one easy to use interface, several accounts are in front of you with a clear snapshot of what is going on in each.  More and more businesses are taking advantage of Hootsuite. 

Social networking is clearly a business objective for more and more businesses each day.  One of the biggest challenges for businesses and their employees is managing the perceived time commitent necessary to be successful on these networks.  Using the tools we have covered in our three part series will help to streamline your efforts and keep you focused on your business goals.
