First coined by Sumner Redstone in 1923 to describe the importance of content over distribution methods, Content is King has become a catchphrase because it is a fundamental concept that stands strong today.

Would you visit a site with a bad design, if it provided good content? I would. Okay maybe I would set up a feed if it was overtly hideous, but I'd still crave the content.

In SEO, content takes on a whole new meaning. Content is made up of keywords and keywords are what SEO is all about. Although it sounds simple, website content is an element of web design that is often overlooked in many ways.

In today's marketing environment where improved methods for consumers to avoid solicitations (caller ID, spam filters, junk mail legislation), it's important to make your site a place where people may want to visit. I can't recall ever whimsically visiting a business site to read about their services. What I DO regularly visit are sites that offer something that I value...entertainment, trivia, helpful guides, social interaction, etc.

Using content will generate qualified leads as people stop by. And as an added bonus, users may syndicate the information; mark it as a social bookmark; or best yet for SEO – LINK to it from a site, blog, forum, or Social Media page.

When you are considering content for your next website project, think about your industry. Then think about what you or your customers would like to see. Lastly think about what keywords you would search for to find that content. Try a search and see what's out there. You may find the key to a strategic keyword SEO campaign.
