Does your website content need updating but the overall design is good?  Is the design outdated and you need a new look?  Does your site lack the functionality needed to stand up in today's web market?

A website can be likened to a building - do you tear it down or renovate it?  If the overall website structure is good and works for your current marketing strategy, then you renovate.  If it is broken & non-functional, the look outdated or you have a new focus, then tear it down and start from scratch.

At Xstreme Media, we assess every project on a case-by-case basis.  We do a site walk-through looking at things like accessibility, functionality, design and content.  Then we talk to the client about what their goals are for their website - what they want it to accomplish for them.  If it makes more sense to redesign their existing site, then we provide a site strategy and quote for that work.

On the other hand, if it is determined that a new Content Management System will improve their site and their ability to make updates, then we recommend a rebuild and work with the client to map out a site structure/wire frame, look, content, etc.

The main thing to keep in mind is that you need to determine if your current website fits into your marketing plans and provides the information and usability that your potential clients require.  A total redesign is not always necessary or prudent, if resources are tight.  It is best to sit down with your web designer and asses your needs to determine the best path for you to take.
